The Commercial Hotel Story
For over a century, The Commercial Hotel has stood on Hopefield's Voortrekker Road.
Its mid-century facade, rebuilt when the road was widened in the 1960s, remains unchanged. The original floors, fittings, and much of the original furniture are all still in place.
Today, The Commercial Hotel is widely regarded as possibly the best preserved original mid-century hotel in South Africa.

Our bar has served the local community for over a century. Shaped by its people and its history, it remains a constant in Hopefield.

The restaurant, set between the hotel entrance and bar, follows a simple approach: a focused menu, grounded in honest food and careful preparation.
Liquor Store
Our liquor store, located next to our bar, continues to operate much as it always has.
It offers friendly over-the-counter service and original features like checkered vinyl flooring and wooden shelving.
Alongside everyday essentials, the selection includes a curated range of small-batch spirits and locally produced wines from Darling, Swartland, Tulbagh, and the Cederberg.
